Why a mule works — No heel counter means no rubbing at the back and no buckle. The low block keeps the foot flat, so Sarah works for a long dinner, a day of walking and a night out. The patent cap against matte suede is what stops a low heel from looking flat.

Styling — Day: Coffee or Black with jeans, a midi or a linen trouser. Office: the almond toe and low block are conservative enough for most dress codes. Evening: swap to a slip dress — the suede does the rest.
